U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Edward Vaughan, deputy director USEUCOM Plans, Policy, and Strategy and Capabilities , and Romanian Brig. Gen. Mihail Iancu, deputy head of the department for defense policy, planning and international relations, led the annual U.S-Romania Joint Committee, held Dec. 12.

“The Romanian armed forces are a strategic frontline Ally and a pillar of stability in the Black Sea region. The U.S. is grateful for Romania’s hospitality for over 3,000 U.S. service members and substantial investment in its infrastructure and facilities,” Vaughan said.

During the virtual session, sub-committees discussed progress made on implementing the Defense Cooperation Agreement between the U.S. and Romania.

"Our main strategic advantage is our partnership and our cooperation. The joint training of our forces is key to our interoperability. It is essential to ensure a credible deterrence and defense posture at the Black Sea," Iancu said.

The next U.S.-Romania Joint Committee meeting will take place in Bucharest in September 2023.

USEUCOM and its forces are committed to defense cooperation with Romania and will continue to build readiness with NATO Allies and partners.
