The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto (CG 56), and the Royal Norwegian Navy Frigate HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen (F310) participate in a passing exercise with the Tunisian offshore patrol vessel Hannon (P612) and La Combatante III class fast patrol boat Tunis (502) in the Mediterranean Sea, Dec. 20, 2021. The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to maintain maritime stability and security, and defend U.S., allied and partner interests in Europe and Africa.

Ambassador Tracy and Brigadier General Edward Vaughan from U.S. European Command participated in a ceremony at the Central Military Hospital to mark the donation of $639,000 worth of medical equipment from the Global Peace Operations Initiative to Armenia’s expeditionary military medical unit. GPOI is a Department of State program intended to build international capacity to execute United Nations peacekeeping operations. The equipment, donated to support the Armenians in their pledge to deploy a Level II hospital to a UN mission, included defibrillators, X-ray machines, tents, generators, lights, and other supplies. Ambassador Tracy highlighted the courage and dedication of Armenia’s military medical personnel and expressed her sincere wishes that the donated equipment will save and improve many Armenian lives. This event marks only the most recent chapter of our long-standing partnership with Armenia, led by the Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation, helping modernize Armenia’s civilian and military medical and disaster response capabilities.

Special Operations Command Europe Announces Establishment of Forward Deployed Headquarters in Albania

STUTTGART, Germany – As part of an ongoing effort in enhancing Special Operations Forces capabilities as a keystone for regional stability, US Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) has made the decision to locate a forward-based SOF headquarters, on a rotational basis, in Albania. The location of the forward HQ in Albania will provide increased interoperability with our Albanian allies, important access to transportation hubs in the Balkans and greater logistical flexibility.
