DEFENDER-Europe 20 Begins With 1st Combat Power Arrival

BREMERHAVEN, Germany— The first combat power into the European theater for DEFENDER-Europe 20 has rolled down the ramp of the American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier The Endurance at the port of Bremerhaven in Germany, February 20. The equipment belongs to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, deploying to Germany from Fort Stewart, Georgia.
The arrival of the ARC Endurance signifies the next major step of DEFENDER-Europe 20, the largest deployment of Soldiers from the U.S. to Europe for an exercise in more than 25 years.

Louisiana, Florida ANG F-15Cs deploy to Iceland in support of NATO

Six F-15Cs comprised from the Louisiana and Florida Air National Guard and approximately 280 support Airmen and equipment from the 125th Fighter Wing, Jacksonville Air National Guard Base, Fla., deployed as the 159th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron to Keflavik, Iceland, to conduct an air surveillance mission in support of NATO Alliance commitments. The aircraft arrived in Iceland Aug. 23.

YAVORIV, Ukraine – Exercise Rapid Trident 16 concluded today with a closing ceremony held at the parade grounds at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center in Yavoriv, Ukraine. The exercise is a multinational exercise designed to support military cooperation among Ukraine, the U.S., and 11 other Allied and partner nations involving about 2,000 military members which was held from June 27 – July 8.

KANGERLUSSUAQ, GREENLAND--Two hundred New York Air National Guard members are rotating into and out of Greenland this summer to support National Science Foundation research on the ice cap here, while also preparing for Antarctic deployments in the fall.

STUTTGART, Germany - Ms. Erika Evans, University of North Georgia student, met with Lt. Gen. William Garrett III, U.S. European Command Deputy Commander here Jun. 11, 2015. Evans successfully completed a four-month internship with EUCOM's J-5/8 Policy, Strategy and Partnering Directorate and was recently selected as a Fulbright Scholar to continue her studies in International Affairs. Lt. Gen. Garrett, a University of North Georgia alumnus, presented Evans with a coin and thanked her for her outstanding work, especially her efforts in support of the Northern European Chiefs of Defense Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 27-28.

U.S. Marine MV-22B Ospreys from Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa departed Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, Romania, with a platoon of Marines from the Black Sea Rotational Force to support a multilateral training exercise during Platinum Eagle 15, May 26, 2015. The Ospreys left Morón Air Base, Spain, earlier in the week, and arrived to work with their allies from the Bulgarian and Romanian armed forces. The Ospreys delivered the Marines to the Babadag Training Area, where they demonstrated their ability to conduct security operations. The training represents the first time Ospreys have conducted multilateral training in Romania, where members of BSRF have established a growing relationship with partner Romanian forces. The project coordination began in 2012 by local non-government organizations working to provide education, training and protection to socially vulnerable sectors of the community to prevent human trafficking.
