Gen. Tod D. Wolters, Supreme Allied Commander Europe and commander, U.S. European Command, visited Polish and U.S. military leadership at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, Poland, today.

During his visit, Gen. Wolters met with Polish First Deputy Chief of Defense Lt. Gen. Tadeusz Mikutel and Maj. Gen. Chris Donahue, commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division.

As part of U.S. commitment to NATO Allies, approximately 2,000 forces have deployed from the U.S. to Europe, including approximately 1,700 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division. Collectively, this force is trained and equipped for a variety of missions to deter aggression and to reassure and defend European allies/partners.

“The deployment of U.S. forces to Poland demonstrates our enduring commitment to NATO during this current period of uncertainty,” Gen. Wolters said. “Alongside our Polish Allies, we are here to enhance interoperability, strengthen military equilibrium, improve responsiveness and, if necessary, defend and secure the NATO Alliance.”

To maintain a heightened state of readiness, the Department of Defense has also repositioned Europe-based units further east and forward deployed additional U.S.-based units to Europe.

U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) is responsible for U.S. military operations across Europe, portions of Asia and the Middle East, the Arctic and Atlantic Ocean. USEUCOM is comprised of more than 65,000 permanent military personnel supported by rotational forces and DoD civilians working closely with NATO Allies and Partners. The command is one of two U.S. forward-deployed geographic combatant commands headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. For more information about USEUCOM, visit https://www.eucom.mil.
