U.S., Hungary sign Implementing Agreements for Use of Air Bases
As the U.S. and Hungary mark 100 years of diplomatic relations, USEUCOM and Hungarian Defense Force leaders sign an agreement that allow American forces to access and use two air bases in Hungary.

The U.S. and Hungary signed implementing agreements that allow American forces access and use of two air bases in Hungary. The agreements are an important step to fully implementing the Defense Cooperation Agreement between the U.S. and Hungary signed in 2019.
During a ceremony held July 16, 2021 at Kecskemét Air Base, Hungary, U.S. European command and Hungarian Defense Force leaders signed implementing agreements designating Kecskemét and Pápa Air Force Bases as agreed facilities and areas.
“These agreements allow U.S. forces to access and utilize these air bases in cooperation with the Hungarian Defence Force,” said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Charles Miller, USEUCOM’s director of plans, policy, strategy and capabilities. “This signing brings with it new opportunities for even greater collaboration and coordination with our Hungarian Allies.”
The agreements are an important step to fully implementing the Defense Cooperation Agreement between the U.S. and Hungary signed in 2019, which modernizes the previous status of forces agreement to reflect new realities in defense.
“This signing demonstrates that the Defense Cooperation Agreement continues to deepen our already robust collective defense cooperation as NATO Allies and helps us prepare for the 21st century security challenges we face together,” said Marc Dillard, Chargé d'Affaires, U.S. Embassy Budapest.
This year we commemorate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Hungary, and celebrate the enduring bonds between our two countries.
