Vaccine Plentiful at USEUCOM Facilities as European Countries Open to Vaccinated Travelers
COVID-19 vaccine remains available across U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) for Department of Defense (DoD) personnel and beneficiaries who want to get vaccinated. Appointments for vaccinations are no longer needed at some USEUCOM medical treatment facilities. Please check with your local facility for their current procedures.
As many European countries begin to ease restrictions for vaccinated travelers, COVID-19 vaccine remains available across U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) for Department of Defense (DoD) personnel and beneficiaries who want to get vaccinated.
“We have three varieties of vaccines that all perform excellently at reducing the risk of severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19,” said U.S. Air Force Col (Dr.) Leigh A Swanson, USEUCOM command surgeon, referring to the Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines currently available at DoD medical treatment facilities.
“We are six months into vaccinating DoD personnel and beneficiaries in Europe. A good number of people have already stepped up to protect themselves, their families, and their teammates by getting vaccinated. But those people who have been waiting should seriously consider getting the vaccine now so we can all get closer to normal sooner,” Swanson said.
As COVID-19 infection rates continue downward trends in many places around the world, some gathering and travel restrictions are being lifted. But many of the loosened rules require people to be either fully vaccinated or test negative before they are allowed to participate in reopened activities.
“We are trending in the right direction but COVID is still with us. People will need protection from the virus and its emerging variants for the foreseeable future. The vaccines we have on hand provide that protection,” Swanson said.
Several European countries have begun issuing digital COVID certificates to people who are fully vaccinated. The certificates can be used in many places to verify vaccination status for entry into public venues, restaurants, shops, and transportation modes.
DoD personnel and beneficiaries living in European countries may be able to register their vaccinations in a host nation system and be issued a digital certificate. Registration procedures vary by country. The European Union’s Re-Open EU website, https://reopen.europa.eu/en, provides information about the registration process in participating countries.
Vaccinations for DoD personnel and beneficiaries remain voluntary at this time. Appointments for vaccinations are no longer needed at some USEUCOM medical treatment facilities. Please check with your local facility for their current procedures.
