U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa Airmen around the theater have played a variety of roles in supporting the Department of Defense COVD-19 response.
Several Airmen, however, have had the unique opportunity to directly assist the Italian air force, the French air force and the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force in their response efforts.
Victory in Europe, or V-E Day, is the day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allied nations of Nazi Germany’s surrender of its armed forces. German military leaders signed the surrender documents at various locations in Europe on May 8.
Today we’re discussing World War II in Europe and the events that led to V-E Day.

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Porter (DDG 78) and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80), USNS Supply (T-AOE 6) and a P-8A Poseidon from Patrol Squadron (VP) 4, conducted a photo exercise (PHOTOEX) with Italian Navy frigate ITS Federico Martinengo (F 596) in the Mediterranean Sea, April 23.
