The Baltic Architecture and Governance working groups convened from July 15-18, 2024, in Stuttgart, Germany, bringing together representatives from Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and the United States to enhance joint and combined interoperability in the Baltic region.

This collaborative effort focused on developing key recommendations for the future of the Baltic Sea Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyberspace, and Intelligence Synchronization Board (BSC5ISB) while promoting the integration of hardware, software and data standards among Baltic Sea region Allied nations.

The working groups concentrated on ensuring compatibility and interoperability across these nations by aligning their technology and data protocols. A primary objective was the development of advanced C5 architectures capable of seamlessly sharing mission-critical information at appropriate security and classification levels. This initiative is vital for maintaining robust, secure communication channels in the region.

The BSC5ISB was established in October 2021, following an arrangement signed by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the United States. The board's mission is to enhance technical interoperability and optimize modernization efforts, thereby bolstering warfighting capability and capacity in the Baltic Sea region.

The recent meeting underscored the commitment of the involved nations to strengthen regional security and operational effectiveness through concerted, cooperative efforts. By focusing on integrated technological solutions and shared data standards, the working groups aim to lay the groundwork for a more unified and resilient defense posture in the Baltic region.
