Readout of Visit from U.S. European Command Deputy Commander to Turkey

U.S. European Command Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. Stephen M. Twitty met with Turkish Deputy Chief of Defense Lt. Gen. Metin Gürak today to discuss ongoing bilateral defense activities between the two nations

U.S. European Command Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. Stephen M. Twitty met with Turkish Deputy Chief of Defense Lt. Gen. Metin Gürak today to discuss ongoing bilateral defense activities between the two nations. 

During the engagement the leaders discussed the ongoing priority issues related to the ceasefire, Turkey's role as a strategic NATO ally in the region, and how to enhance coordination and cooperation with respect to the situation in Syria. The leaders also spent time on matters concerning stability in the region. 

Gürak and Twitty agreed to the importance of continued dialogue in the future.

U.S. European Command is one of two U.S. forward-deployed geographic combatant commands whose area of focus spans across Europe, portions of Asia and the Middle East, the Arctic and Atlantic oceans. The command is composed of approximately 70,000 military and civilian personnel and is responsible for U.S. defense operations and relations with NATO and 51 countries.
